WKRP in Cincinnati

WKRP in Cincinnati TV Show

WKRP in Cincinnati was a comedy that aired from 1978 to 1982 on CBS.  The comedy basically revolved around the misadventures and shenanigans of a fictional radio station in Cincinnati, Ohio.  The show starred Gary Sandy as Andy Travis, Howard Hesseman as Dr. Johnny Fever, Gordon Jump as Arthur Carlson, Loni Anderson as Jennifer Marlowe, Tim Reid as Venus Flytrap, Jan Smithers as Bailey Quarters, Richard Sanders as Les Nessman, and Frank Bonner as Herb Tarlek.  The show got off to a slow start, nearly being canceled after eight episodes, but fan reactions convinced CBS to keep the show alive, and it became a hit.

Fans of this show will remember that Arthur Carlson (Jump) is asked to manage a fledgling radio station owned by his mother.  It is ultimately the new program director’s (Andy Travis) job to make the turnaround happen, and he has the “help” of other employees at the station.  There was the shifty sales manager Herb (Bonner), the totally inept news anchor Les (Sanders), the big busted receptionist Jennifer (Anderson), the energetic Bailey (Smithers), the stoned out DJ Johnny Fever (Hesseman), and the hip DJ Venus Flytrap (Reid).  Each character, with their own quirks, strange habits, and odd personalities, made for great comedy as they worked together at the station.
