Anthrax Hair Metal Band

There came a point when hair metal became speed metal, and bands like Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax began appealing to a newer audience of mosh-pit nut bags.  The New York band, Anthrax, was formed in 1981, and is on the short list of most recognizable 80's thrash metal bands (and the first to sign with a major record label in 1985).  The band purposely named themselves after the disease, simply due to the fact that it sounded menacing.

Over the years, Anthrax has had a mixed bag of members and vocalists, the only consistent members being Scott Ian and Charlie Benante.  By 1986, Anthrax began to go against the grain of traditional metal fatigues, by dressing in biker shorts and singing about Stephen King novels, comic book figures, and touring with the colorful band Living Colour.  Over the years, and well into the post 2010, Anthrax reunited with various band members as they toured the world.
