The metal band Baton Rouge formed in Pearl River, Louisiana in 1986. Pear River is about 100 miles from Baton Rouge, but naming your metal band Pearl River didn’t have the same ring to it. Their first release was in 1990 (Shake Your Soul), and their follow-up (Lights Out on the Playground) was released in 1991. Soon after this released they disbanded.
Baton Rouge was fronted by vocalist and guitarist Kelly Keeling, who went on to play in a number of different metal bands as the years went on, even working with the Tran-Siberian Orchestra as a vocalist in 2006. We rank Baton Rouge above average when it comes to metal bands coming out of the early 1990’s. Keeling returned in 1997 for a follow-up album and the band has been known to play at Rocklahoma as well.
