Cacophony Hair Metal Band

The mid to late 1980's featured the guitar slinging fast cat Jason Becker and Marty Friedman in Cacophony (which oddly enough means "harsh noise" which is what our mothers often called this type of music).  With classical influences, Becker and Friedman demonstrated their talent for speedball neo-classical guitar by releasing Speed Metal Symphony (1987) and Go Off (1988).  A 2009 article in Guitar World magazine actually ranked Speed Metal Symphony as 9 out of 10 on the list of greatest "shred" metal guitar albums.

Cacophony remained active until 1989, but disbanded shortly after as they pursued solo careers.  Some of you may be familiar with the 1989 albumsDragon's Kiss by Marty Friedman and Perpetual Burn by Jason Becker.  Many of you may not know that Friedman went on to play with Megadeth for many years, while Becker was David Lee Roth's guitar player from 1989 to 1991.  Sadly, Becker was diagnosed with a degenerative disease in 1991 that left him not only unable to play the guitar, but also unable to speak.

If you are fans of guitar rockers like McAlpine, Impelletteri and Malmsteen, then these two albums should be part of your collection if they aren't already.
