Cats in Boots Hair Metal Band

Cats in Boots (Cats N Boots) was a sleaze metal band that formed in Los Angeles in 1988 after a couple of famous metal heads from Japan (Takashi O’Hashi and Yasuhiro Hatae) moved to the USA to start a new band.  After spotting vocalist Joe Ellis in a band called Merri Hoax, the two talked him into a new project, and Cats in Boots was created.  The band recorded a demo in 1988 and then everyone moved back to Japan where the songs were released.   O’Hashi’s popularity in Japan pushed the songs up the Japanese charts in a hurry.

Their success in Japan landed the band a record deal with EMI in the USA, and their first full-fledged album, Kicked & Klawed, was released in 1989.  Regardless of the MTV airplay, the band did not do very well in the USA, and it wasn’t long before they split up.  Ellis went on to form the band Heavy Bones.  As far as sleaze bands go, Cats in Boots was certainly a good one.  The band did reunite for a few shows in the 2000’s, but any current activity was known at the time of this writing.
