Heavy Pettin' Hair Metal Band

Heavy Pettin' was a melodic 80's metal band, founded in Glasgow, Scotland back in 1981, that gained popularity in the United States just as quickly as they lost it.  Never the less, they still have a fan base out there, although mostly in the United Kingdom.  The band was often compared to Def Leppard, and we think there is little doubt in the band's talent.

By the time Heavy Pettin' was working with Polydor records in the USA, executives had kicked around the idea of changing the band's name to something less sexual.  Interestingly enough, the band started out with the name Weeper, which was quickly squashed as a record level worthy band name.  The band's name as we know it today was an allusion to UFO's album,No Heavy Petting.  Heavy Pettin' toured with bands like Kiss, Ozzy Osbourne, and Motley Crue.

The bands first release, Lettin' Loose, was produced by Queen's Brian May in 1983.  It was later in the 80's that their popularity began to blossom in the USA.  There has been some re-releases of their older stuff over the last several years.  In 2007, the album Prodigal Songs was released, which is essentially a compilation of previously un-released 80's material (the song were written between 1982 and 1987).  At the time of this writing, the Heavy Pettin' Discography was as follows:
