Leatherwolf Hair Metal Band

The name Leatherwolf sounds about as menacing as a box of chocolates for a power metal band, but hey, all the great band names were already taken at the time.  And what time was that?  It was the 80's, baby!  Leatherwolf formed in California in 1981 and was best known for the use of three guitar players (4 if you count the bass player).  Leatherwolf was a popular act on the Southern Cal metal scene, along with other early players like Metallica and Slayer, and this is where they caught the attention of Enigma Records.

Leatherwolf's initial 1984 EP had several names (depending on who released it or re-released it):  GrandslamEndangered Species, or Leatherwolf.  To confuse us, their second release was in 1987 and was also self-titled.  Some of you will remember the song "The Calling" from this album, which did receive some decent MTV air time.  Their last 80's release was in 1989 (Street Ready), and featured the ballad "Hideaway".

As grunge began taking over, Leatherwolf was unable to capitalize on their earlier success.  Leatherwolf was not heard from again until a 1999 reunion concert in Santa Ana, CA that was released as a LIVE album.  Although band members shifted since 1999, Leatherwolf did manage to release new material.  At the time of this writing, the Leatherwolf Discography was as follows:
