Racer X Hair Metal Band

Racer X was a metal band that was formed by guitarist Paul Gilbert and bassist Juan Alderete in Los Angeles in 1985.  They landed a deal with Shrapnel records and released their first album, Street Lethal, in 1986.  Gilbert, a recent graduate of the Guitar Institute of Technology, was one of those guitar shredders who were typically mentioned for his talent along with other shredders like Yngwie Malmsteen, Vinnie Moore, and Chris Impellitteri.  Racer X released their second album, Second Heat, in 1987.

By the late 1980’s, members of Racer X had become disillusioned with the fact that they had not landed a major record label deal, so the band split up.  Paul Gilbert would go on to form the band Mr. Big with Billy Sheenan.  By the late 1990’s, after having worked as a solo artist, Gilbert had once again fired up the old band, and Racer X would go on to release three more studio albums.  At the time of this writing, Gilbert had returned to a solo career, and the last known public appearance of Racer X was in 2009.  The Racer X Discography is as follows:
