Boston Band

The roots of the Boston based band "Boston" date back to the late 1960's, when guitarist Tom Scholz, having graduated from M.I.T. with a masters degree, began working for Polaroid and using his money to build a recording studio in his home.  Initially, demo tapes were rejected by record companies, but by the mid 1970's, Epic Records had taken notice.

Boston released their first self-titled album in 1976.  Many of you will remember the hit songs "More than a Feeling", "Long Time", and "Peace of Mind" from this album.  To date, this album ranks as the best selling album in U.S. history.  It peaked at no. 3 on the Billboard Top 200 and stayed on the charts for 132 weeks.  Boston quickly became a huge success, and went on tour with bands like Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, and Foghat to support this initial release.  The band's follow up release, Don't Look Back, also masterminded primarily by Scholz, was released in 1978.  Even though this release only sold half as many as their debut, it still featured the hit songs "A Man I'll Never Be" and "Feelin' Satisfied".

By the release of their second album, a rift between the band, it's management, and CBS records, caused the band to take a long hiatus.  Scholz recommended to the other members of Boston that it would be a good time to work on solo projects.  Some of you may remember the band Orion the Hunter, which was Barry Goudreau's and seemingly the only side project that met with some success (you may remember the song "Dreams").  Eventually, CBS lost their lawsuit against Boston, which finally freed up the release of their third album on MCA Records.

Boston's third album, Third Stage, was released in 1986 and featured the hit songs "Amanda", "We're Ready", and "Can'tcha Say".  After another long delay, the band's fourth album, Walk On, was released in 1994.  Although this album did not do nearly as well as its predecessors, it still featured the hit song "I Need Your Love".  In the 1990's, the only other new material to have been released by Boston was three new songs featured on their 1997 Greatest Hits Release ("High Power", "Tell Me", and "Star Spangled Banner").

In 2002, Boston finally released their fourth album, Corporate America, which is classic Boston in many ways.  In 2007, lead singer Brad Delp committed suicide.  Boston has had several vocalists fill in since then, including Michael Sweet of Stryper.  Due to political affiliation conflicts, members of the band have continued to shift over the years.  Never the less, at the time of this writing, Scholz was working on a new album to be released in 2013.  At the time of this writing, the Boston Discography was as follows:
