Survivor Band

The roots of Chicago's Survivor can be traced back to a band called The Jim Peterik Band of the late 1970's, which released the album Don't Fight the Feeling on Epic Records in 1976.  After making a name for themselves in the Chicago area, the band eventually landed a record deal with Atlantic Records.

Survivor debuted in 1979 with a self-titled album.  This first release did not do very well, but their follow up album, Premonition, did feature the top 40 hit "Poor Man's Son", which began their claim to fame.  A fan of this song was Sylvester Stallone, who asked the band to write a theme song for his movie Rocky III.  The song "Eye of the Tiger" was born, as was Survivor's stardom.  The song was a number one hit in multiple countries and ultimately won the band a Grammy.  The song was eventually released on the album Eye of the Tiger in 1982, which also featured the hit song "American Heartbeat".

The band's next album, Caught in the Game, was not a success.  After lead vocalist Dave Bickler suffered a medical condition, he was forced to leave the band, and the new vocalist, Jimi Jamison, helped propel the band band into the spotlight with the 1985 album Vital Signs, which featured the hit songs "I Can't Hold Back," "High On You," & "The Search is Over".  "Burning Heart" was another hit song from the Rocky IV soundtrack.  Their 1986 release, When Seconds Count, featured the hit song "Is This Love".  The band's final release of the 80's, Too Hot to Sleep (1988), found the band turning back to their more hard rock roots, but the album still failed to chart.

By the early 1990's, Survivor had split, and members worked on solo projects.  Eventually, Bickler was invited back as vocalist, but by 2000, Jamison was back again.  This continued to be a revolving door well into the 2010's, as Survivor continued producing and touring.  At the time of this writing, the Survivor Discography was as follows:
