Tony Carey was an American musician who joined up with Rainbow in the mid 1970's as keyboardist. Carey left Rainbow in 1977 and began to work on a solo career. Carey released his first album on an indie label in 1982. It was his second release, I Won't Be Home Tonight, where he began to get noticed because of the hit song "West Coast Summer Nights".
By his third release, Carey had landed a deal with Geffen, and he was able to release material both as Tony Carey and under a project called Planet P Project. The Planet P Project release featured the hit songs "Why Me" and "Static". As Carey continued producing, the hits kept rolling in. Some of you may remember the songs "A Fine, Fine Day", "The First Day of Summer", "What I See", and "Behind the Barrier". As the years have rolled on, Carey has both produced albums under his name and the Planet P Project, many of which have been self-produced.
