Don Johnson hit the big time starring as Sonny Crockett on the hit 80's TV show Miami Vice. He was born in Missouri, but spent most of his youth in Wichita, KS where he graduated high school. It was in high school that he began taking an interest in drama. It took a number of years of grinding it out on stage, having roles in film, and starring in TV pilots that went nowhere before the Miami Vice gig.
At the height of his career, Johnson released his first studio album, titled Heartbeat. The title track single ("Heartbeat") from this released reached number 5 on the Billboard 100. The album charted at 17 in the USA and did much better in Europe. His follow-up release, 1989's Let It Roll, did not do well in the USA, but was a success in Europe (the song "Tell It Like It Is" being the highest charting). It is worth noting that while dating Barbra Streisand in the late 1980's, the two had a duet together called "Till I Loved You", which made it to number 25 on the US charts. At the time of this writing, the Don Johnson Discography was as follows:
- 1986: Heartbeat
- 1989: Let It Roll
- 1997: The Essential
