The Jim Carroll Band

New York City's James Dennis "Jim" Carroll was an eclectic guy.  He was a writer, a poet, and even had his own punk rock band.  He grew up not only doing well in school, but also on the basketball court.  He even wrote the book The Basketball Diaries, which was put on the silver screen in 1995 (starring Leonardo DiCaprio).  This was not his only literary contribution, as much of his poetry was published in the late 1960's and early 1970's.  Carroll even worked for Andy Warhol at one point.

In the late 1970's, Carroll moved to California to try and get a fresh start (he was trying to kick a heroin addiction).  After getting some encouragement from musician Patti Smith, Carroll formed the new wave punk rock group that would eventually be called The Jim Carroll Band (it started out as a band called Amsterdam).  Their first studio album, Catholic Boy, was released in 1980.  Some of you may remember the song "People Who Died" from this release, a song that was also featured on the E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial movie soundtrack.

The Jim Carroll Band did release two more studio albums in the 80's, in addition to a couple in the 1990's and an EP in 2000.  Jim Carroll died in 2009 of a heart attack.  The Jim Carroll Band Discography is as follows:
