Purple Rain Soundtrack

Purple Rain, which was released in 1984, starred Prince in the title role of “The Kid”.  The movie is tied to Prince’s album of the same name, and was hatched during his “Triple Threat” tour.  Although the movie did not do well with critics, it was a major commercial success.  It is considered by many to be an 80’s cult classic.  Some of you bigger fans will remember a sequel was released in 1990 called Graffiti Bridge.

In this movie, Prince stars as an egotistical Minneapolis musician trying to make it big in as singer in a band called The Revolution.  Prince spends most of his time performing at the First Avenue nightclub, competing against other bands like The Time, whose members want to see The Revolution out of the club.  During one stage show, Prince draws the attention of Apollonia (played by Apollonia Kotero), and the two soon begin a relationship.

It just so happens that members of The Revolution are disgruntled with Prince due to his lack of interest in their new material.  To top things off, Apollonia has joined former members of The Time as lead singer, which infuriates Prince.  Just when things look like they are over for the Revolution, Prince takes some of the original material that his band members had given him and he composes the song “Purple Rain”.  After performing this song at the club, which was a hit with the audience (including Appollonia and members of The Time), everything is put to right and the world continues to function in harmony.
