"Say hello to my little friend."  Scarface, starring Al Pacino as Tony Montana, Steven Bauer as Manny Ray, and Michelle Pfieffer as Elvira Hancock, was an Oliver Stone action drama released in 1983.  On its release, the movie received mostly negative reviews due to its foul language and excessive violence.  However, some heavy hitters, such as critic Roger Ebert, gave the film 4 out of 4 stars, adding to his “greatest movies” list.  Since 1983, the movie has garnered a more favorable response as a general rule.  The movie was a major financial success.

This movie is about Tony Montana (Pacino), a Cuban refugee who comes to the USA illegally and is put in a Miami refugee camp with his best friend, Manny Ray (Bauer).  In exchange for green cards, the two agree to murder a former Cuban government official who is also in the camp, and so they are freed.  Tony and Manny eventually become deeply involved in the Miami mafia, working for crime boss Frank Lopez (played by Robert Loggia) as Cocaine runners.  After Tony makes a drug deal in Bolivia with kingpin Alejandro Sosa without Frank’s blessing, things begin to fall apart between Tony and Frank (not to mention that Tony has been hitting on Frank’s girlfriend, Elivira).

Tony splits from Frank and creates his own syndicate.  He learns the ins and out of bribing cops and making drug deals.  When Franik orders a hit on Tony that goes bad, Tony turns the tables, and takes out Frank instead.  Tony ends up marrying Elivra (Pfieffer) and building a multi-million dollar drug smuggling operation.  Eventually, Tony gets busted by the feds, and to stay out of jail, he agrees to do a hit for Sosa (the Bolivian supplier).  After the hit falls apart, Sosa puts a hit out on Tony, and in the end, Tony goes out in a blaze of glory as Sosa’s henchmen close in.
