She's Having a Baby (1988) was a John Hughes romantic comedy that starred Kevin Bacon as Jake Briggs, Elizabeth McGovern as Kristy Briggs, and Alec Baldwin as Davis McDonald.  The movie received mixed reviews in 1988, but still managed to turn a minor profit for Hughes and Paramount Pictures.

This movie is about the pros and cons of married life.  Bacon plays the role of Jake Briggs, an aspiring writer who puts his dreams aside to get married to Kristy (McGovern).  On the side is Jake’s best friend, Davis (Baldwin), who not only continues to remind Jake about what he is missing by not being single, but also who attempts to muscle in on Jake’s girl.  The film portrays Jake and Kristy’s lives from their wedding day until their first child is born, with Jake’s voice as major narrator.  Jake gets a job as a copy writer, and Kristy finds work as a research analyst.  After buying a home and settling in, Kristy decides to stop taking birth control without telling Jake.

Eventually, Jake is told about Kristy’s attempt to get pregnant, and in an effort to speed things along, Jake agrees to get some medical assistance.  Not long after, Kristy gets pregnant, and after the baby is born, Jake begins to grow up.  He realizes his dissatisfaction with being encumbered by marriage is a symptom of selfishness and he realizes he needs to begin thinking of somebody other than himself.  The movie ends with Jake reading the novel he has just finished to his wife and newborn son, titled She’s Having a Baby.
