Staying Alive Soundtrack

Staying Alive (1983), starring John Travolta as Tony Manero, was the sequel to Saturday Night Fever.  Believe it or not, this flick was co-written and directed by Sylvester Stallone.  The movie garnered its name from the Bee Gee’s song “Stayin’ Alive”, which was the theme song for Saturday Night Fever.  Although the movie was one of the highest grossing films to come out of 1983, critics hated it, and it is considered by many to be one of the worst sequels after produced.  In fact, Travolta was little scene again until the movie Pulp Fiction was released.

This sequel follows disco king Tony Manero (Travolta), six years after the end of the first movie, as he travels to New York to try it make it on Broadway.  Even though Tony appears to be a bit more refined after six years, he is still a bit of a womanizer, willing to do whoever it takes to land a role as a dancer, much to the chagrin of his girlfriend, Jackie (Cynthia Rhodes).  After realizing how cruel he has been to Jackie though his selfishness and infidelity, he decides to make things right.  In the end, he manages to get the lead dance role, and after gaining a new round of self-confidence and renewed relationship with Jackie, things begin looking up.
