GREATEST HITS
FREHLEY'S COMET GREATEST HITS LOADED DECK

Yes, ladies and gents, this was Ace Frehley's band after his break with Kiss.  Many of you probably remember that Ace was the Kiss guitar player from 1973 to1982, and then again from 1996 to 2002.  Some of you may even remember that Guitar World magazine ranked him the number 14 best metal guitar players of all time, which is actually quite an honor.

Ace Frehley grew up in the Bronx and was actually in a New York street gang, called the Duckies, with Blackie Lawless (from the band WASP).  After growing up in a musical family and teaching himself to play guitar, he answered an ad for a guitarist for a band called "Wicked Lester".  Wicked Lester hired him three weeks later, and in 1973, changed their name to "Kiss".

So it was after his 1982 break with Kiss that Ace started the band Frehley's Comet (rhymes with Hailey's Comet, get it?).  Interestingly enough, Ace retained 25% of all profits from Kiss until 1985, which included profits from the albums Lick It Up and Animalize, that featured Vinnie Vincent on guitar.  Even while a member of Kiss in the late 1970's, Frehley released a couple of solo albums.  However, as Frehley's Comet, the band did not secure a record deal until well into the 80's, and the Frehley's Comet debut was released in 1987 (the album peaked at 43 on the Billboard Top 200).  The band went on tour with Y&T and White Lion to promote the album.  Some of you may remember the songs "Into the Night" and "Rock Soldiers" from this album.  The song Rock Soldiers is an autobiographical diddy about a serious 1982 car wreck that Ace was involved in.

The band's second release, Second Sighting (1988), charted at 81.  Unfortunately, Frehley's Comet was unable to maintain the momentum of their first release.  By the third release, Trouble Walkin', Ace had dropped the name "Frehley's Come" and went back to "Ace Frehley".  That album still charted at 102 on the Billboard Top 200, in partial thanks to the participation of Peter Chris and Sebastian Bach (Skid Row) on the album.

In between his reunion with Kiss and other solo projects, Ace continued to produce.  At the time of this writing, the Ace Frehley/Frehley's Comet Discography was as follows:

  • 1978: Ace Frehley
