No Bozos

No Bozos T-Shirt

Bozo the clown was a TV character that first appeared on TV in the late 1940's.  After Larry Harmon purchased the rights to Bozo the Clown in the 1950's, the character became well-known around the world.  Bozo's popularity peaked in the late 1960's many big cities featuring their own, local TV versions of Bozo the Clown (sort of like Romper Room).  Bozo could still be found here and there well into the 2000's.  In the mid 1980's, there was a relatively short-lived fad popularized by Van Halen, that featured a "No Bozos" logo.  Van Halen first put the logo on some of their concert t-shirts in 1984, but before long, the No Bozos logo began showing up on buttons, caps, and even bumper stickers.  Now it has evolved to include things like coffee cups, watches, and even electric guitar parts.
