Transformers the Movie 1986 Poster

What would the 80's have been without a cartoon version of the infamous Transformer line of toys?  Transformers the movie, released in 1986, once again pitted the Autobots against the Decepticons, this time on the silver screen.  The movie was a hit with kids, of course, but reviews from critics were mixed, and the movie did not make as much money as expected.  The movie featured several famous voices, including Robert Stack, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nemoy, and even Orson Welles.

In this movie, the Autobots are set to attack the Decepticons, who have taken over the home world of Cybertron.  When the Decepticons realize the Autobots are headed to Autobot City on earth to refuel, they hijack the Autobot ship and take control of Autobot City.  After a battle between the two is over, the Decepticons are repelled from the city, but Optimus Prime is mortally wounded (there were a number of prominent Autobots killed off in this movie).

The rest of the movie is essentially the battle between the Autobots, the Decepticons, a couple of other groups, such as the Dinobots and the Sharkticons.  In the end, the Autobots prevail, and they once again inhabit Cybertron.
