Barney Miller was a situation comedy that ran from 1975 to 1982 on ABC. Characters on the show included Captain Barney Miller (Hal Linden), Sergeant Philip K. Fish (Abe Vigoda), Detective Wojo Wojciehowicz (Max Gail), Sergeant Ron Nathan Harris (Ron Glass), and Sergeant Nick Yemana (Jack Soo). The show was very popular during its run, and it was a favorite with real life police officers.
In this show, Captain Barney Miller (Linden), who is in charge of his local NYC police precinct, goes about the business of managing the daily activities of rather eccentric group of detectives and the criminal element coming in and out of the squad room. The show primarily focused on the interactions between the officers, suspects, and other regular characters of the show. Each show would have two or three sub-plots, and nearly all of the footage of this show took place within the precinct walls, either in the squad room or Miller's office. From time to time, an episode would feature one or more of the characters on a stakeout or in their homes.
