Colby's, The

The Colby's 80's TV Show

The Colby's, which was a spin-off of the hit show Dynasty and originally titled "Dynasty II:  The Colby’s," ran from 1985 to 1987 on ABC.  The show was not a ratings hit, and critics did not care much for it (they considered it a clone of Dynasty).  The show finished 35th in 1985, while Dynasty ranked 7th the same year.  It had rich competition in its time slot, competing against shows like Cheers, Knots Landing, and the Cosby Show.  There were some big stars in this show.  Charlton Heston played the role of Jack Colby, Ricardo Montalban played Zach Powers, and there were many more.

As a spin-off to Dynasty, the premise of this show revolved around the presumed dead heiress Fallon Carrington Colby (daughter of Blake Carrington).  Suffering from amnesia, she ends up in California in a relationship with Miles Colby, who was the cousin of her ex-husband, Jeff.  Jason Colby, the head of Colby Enterprises, is the Miles’ father.  A business venture causes Jeff to move to Los Angeles, where he finds his ex-wife married to his cousin.  This causes a rivalry between Miles and Jeff, which permeates the series.  Like many evening drama of the time, the show was filled with other rivalries, divorce, adultery, shady business deals, vendettas, death, and even…get this…and alien abduction (Fallon was seemingly abducted by aliens on the last episode).
