Rainbow, also known as Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, was a British rock band held together by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore (formerly of Deep Purple). Blackmore used Ronnie James Dio’s band, Elf, for early recordings, and Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow was released in 1975 with Dio on vocals. By 1979, Dio had been let go as the vocalist, and Graham Bonnet was hired for vocal duties. The band’s first major success came with Bonnet on vocals and the release of 1979’s Down to Earth, which featured the top 10 hits “Since You Been Gone” and “All Night Long”.
Subsequent early 80’s releases also had hit songs, but this time with Joe Lynn Turner on vocals. You may remember the Turner hit songs such as “I Surrender”, “Can’t Happen Here”, “Stone Cold”, and “Street of Dreams”. Rainbow broke up in 1984 and Blackmore went back to Deep Purple. By 1993, Blackmore had once again left Deep Purple to revive Rainbow until 1997, at which time everyone went on to different projects. The Rainbow Discography is as follows:
