Thompson Twins Band

The Thompson Twins was a new wave British group that formed in 1977.  The band named themselves after the slapstick detectives, Thomson and Thompson, of the comic strip The Adventures of Tintin.  In 1980, the band released the singles "Squares and Triangles" and "She's In Love with Mystery" on their own label.

After some member shuffling, the Thompson Twins released their first studio album in 1981 (A Product Of...(Participation).  Their first hit was a dance hit, called "In the Name of Love", that was released on the 1982 Set (called In the Name of Love in the USA).  In 1982, the band was reduced to a trio:  Tom Bailey, Alannah Currie, and Joe Leeway.  It was their 1982 release, Quick Step and Side Kick (Side Kicks in the USA), that began their international success, featuring the hit songs "Lies", "Love on Your Side", and "We Are Detective".  The pinnacle of their career came in 1984 with the release of Into the Gap, which featured the hit songs "Hold Me Now", "You Take Me Up", and "Doctor, Doctor".  Some of you will remember the hit songs "Lay Your Hands On Me" and "King for a Day" from their 1985 release, Here's to Future Days.

As the 80's rolled on, although they were able to reproduce their earlier success, they did have some charting hits in the UK and the USA (such as the songs "Big Daddy" and "Come Inside".  In 1986, Leeway left the band, while the remaining members pressed on.  Interestingly enough, the Thompson Twins did not jump on the 80's resurgence bandwagon.  The Thompson Twins Discography is as follows:
