When Harry Met Sally

When Harry Met Sally Movie Poster

"Can two friends sleep together and still love each other in the morning?".  When Harry Met Sally was a 1989 romantic comedy directed by Rob Reiner.  The movie starred Billy Crystal as Harry Burns, Carrie Fisher as Marie, Bruno Kirby as Jess, and Meg Ryan as Sally Albright.  The movie received mostly positive reviews, and was ultimately a hit with fans at the box office.  The movie is still considered by many to be one of the greatest romantic comedies to ever be produced.

In this movie, Harry Burns (Crystal) and Sally Albright (Ryan) are friends who have both recently graduated from the University of Chicago and are on their way to new careers in New York City.  On the shared ride to the Big Apple, the two discuss their ideas around the relationships between men and women.  Harry does not think a man and a woman can have a true friendship due to underlying sexual tensions, and Sally disagrees.  At the end of the road trip, their arguing was enough to cause them part ways as non-friends.

Fast forward 5 years, and the two meet up again by happenstance, with Harry trying to explain away his earlier philosophy so that he and Sally can once again be friends.  It did not work.  Fast forward another 5 years at a time when they are both single, and the two run into each other again at a bookstore.  It does not take long before they find themselves talking frequently, and something begins to blossom between them.  After some tension, some arguments, and some tears, the two ultimately end up together as a couple.
