The Beastmaster Movie Poster

"Born with the courage of an eagle, the strength of a black tiger, and the power of a god.  The epic adventure of a new kind of hero".

The original The Beastmaster movie was a fantasy/action movie released in 1982 and starred Marc Singer as Dar, Tanya Roberts as the hot slave girl, Kiri.  Dar, who was "Born with the courage of an eagle, the strength of a black tiger, and the power of a god," was a prince who had been taken from his mother through the evil hand of a sorcerer named Maax.  Dar is saved by a poor villager who raises Dar and teaches him how to fight.  In addition to his fighting skills, Dar has the uncanny ability to telepathically speak with all variety of animals.

After Dar's village is destroyed by a horde of beast warriors under Maax's control, Dar vows revenge.  After teaming up with a tiger, an eagle, and a couple of cute little ferrets, he sets out to seek his revenge, meeting the slave-girl Kira along the way as well as a half-bird, half-human race of creatures who eat humans.

Dar makes it to the city, where it is found out that his father (the king), is being held in the central pyramid while Maax controls all aspects of the city (including human sacrifice).  After teaming up with his brother, Dar rescues Kira and the king.  The king rejects Dar and subsequently orders a failed siege against Maax.  Maax kills the king, captures Kira (again) and then ultimately dies when the ferrets attack him and he falls from a tall precipice.  The movie ends after the beat warriors that destroyed Dar's village are destroyed by the half-bird creatures.  Dar, Kira, and the animals set off for new adventures.

The Beastmaster was a mediocre performed when it was released in 1982, but it has grown as a cult favorite over the years.  It was popular enough to warrant two more movies that were released in the 1990's as well as a TV series.
