Winger Hair Metal Band

How many of you ladies had a crush on Kip Winger?  Although they hit the scene late, Winger left their mark on heavy metal and happens to be one of our favorite metal bands at ilovethe80s.com.  Forget about Beavis and Butthead poking fun at Winger in contrast to Metallica or AC/DC on their show back in the 1990's, Winger was a very talented band.

Winger was a New York City band whose founding members were veteran rockers Kip Winger (Kix, Alice Cooper) and Reb Beach.  The two started their collaboration in the mid 1980's, and the band Winger officially started in 1987.  Their first self-titled release hit the scène in 1988. This album went platinum, charting at 20 on the Billboard Top 200.  which features the great songs "Seventeen", "Madalaine", "Headed for a Heartbreak", "Hungry", and the "Purple Haze".

Wingers 1990 follow up, In the Heart of the Young, was also a very successful album, and many of you will remember the songs "Can't Get Enuff", "Miles Away", and "Easy Come Easy Go".  The band toured extensively with other heavy hitters such as Slaughter, Kiss, Scorpions, ZZ Top, and Extreme.  Winger released Pull in 1993, and although it was not as successful, it was still a good album.  Our understanding is that Kip Winger purposely named the album "pull" as an analogy to the shotgun fodder he expected from critics.  By 1994, the band broke up and went on to solo projects.  Kip could be found recording on his own, and Reb Beach could be found pounding the stage with bands like Dokken, Whitesnake, and Alice Cooper.

By 2001, the band was back in the studio with all original members, and new material was recorded for a greatest hits release.  As the years have rolled on, Winger could be found both in the studio and on tour.  At the time of this writing, the Winger Discography was as follows:
