Zebra was a relatively short lived band from New Orleans that formed in 1975, but also one of the view featured on The King Biscuit Flower Hour. They gained notoriety in the area by playing clubs and high school dances. They split their gig time between New Orleans and Long Island, NY, where they eventually moved to further their career The name of the band came from a night of drinking where the members, sitting around cogitating on what they should call themselves, saw a picture of a woman riding a zebra on the cover of a 1922 Vogue magazine that was framed and featured on the wall of the bar.

In 1982, Atlantic records signed the band, and their self-titled release was released in 1983. This album became the fastest initial sales album in Atlantic Records history, selling 75,000 copies in the first week and eventually charting at 29 on the Billboard Charts. Many of you will remember the songs "Tell Me What You Want" and "Who's Behind the Door" from this album. It is said that on a tour with Aerosmith in 1983, the crowd was so fired up after Zebra's performance, that Aerosmith waited over 1 hour to come to the stage for the second half of the show, only to hear more cheers of "Zebra" from the crowd. Other heavy hitters that Zebra toured with included Sammy Hagar, Survivor, and REO Speedwagon.

In 1984, Zebra released their second album, No Tellin' Lies, which did not do nearly as well as their freshman release. In 1986, the band released 3.V, which even though only slightly bettered their second album, has been hailed by critics as top notch. The band broke up shortly thereafter, and it wasn't until 2003 that the band released any new material. At the time of this writing, the Zebra Discography was as follows:
