Head of the Class
Head of the Class was a comedy that ran from 1986 to 1991 on ABC. Howard Hesseman played the role of Charles P. Moore (this is the actor how played D.J. Johnny Fever on WKRP in Cincinnati). By the shows end, Hesseman was replaced with a new teacher named Billy MacGregor (played by Billy Connolly). Although the show was never a breakout hit for ABC, it was a solid performer, with its highest Nielsen rating at #20 for the third season (the show ran for a total of 5 seasons).
Fans of this show will remember that Charlie Moore (Hesseman), an out-of-work actor turned history substitute teacher, was put in charge of a group of gifted students in need of special guidance. Teaching grows on Moore, who makes it his mission to get the students to think critically. Even though his students were academically gifted, they all had personal problems that required Moore to be more than just their teacher. The parents and the students loved Moore so much, that they made him their permanent teacher.
