Predator

Predator Movie Poster

"Nothing like it has ever been on Earth before.  It came for the thrill of the hunt.  It picked the wrong man to hunt."  The original Predator was released in 1987.  The movie did so well at the box office, that it warranted two sequels and a number of spin-offs.  Predator 2 was released in 1990, Predators in 2010, Alien vs. Predator in 2004, and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem in 2007.  The original movie starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer.  The movie received mixed reviews from critics (Roger Ebert gave it 3/4 stars).  Regardless of the mixed reviews, it was a box office success.

In this movie, an elite military team is inserted into a Central American jungle in order to rescue a presidential cabinet member who had been kidnapped by guerrillas.  While searching for the victim, the group finds the wreckage of a crashed Army helicopter, and the bodies of Special Forces soldiers, that had been skinned and hung from trees.  After tracking the guerrillas and attacking their compound, Dutch's group realizes that there was never any kidnap victim, but instead the mission was a ploy to attack the compound.

As the movie progresses, the team begins to realize that something out there in the jungle is tracking and killing them.  It turns out to be an alien that has a love for hunting and killing prey that can fight back.  Once Dutch realizes that the alien will only fight those with weapons, he ditches anything high-tech and begins fighting by fashioning weapons from the environment around him.  The alien, who recognizes Dutch's bravery, gives up his weapons and camouflage as well for hand-to-hand combat.  In the end, Dutch barely defeats the alien, an barely escapes with this life as the alien blows himself up with a huge bomb at the end of the movie.
