Stray Cats Band

The Stray Cats formed in Long Island, NY in 1980, although an earlier iteration of the band was called the Tomcats.  As a heavily 50's influenced rockabilly band, when the Stray Cats heard there was a 50's music revival in England, they packed their bags, even though they had garnered a large following in New York.

After catching the attention of some record execs, the Stray Cats were offered a music deal, and by 1981, they released their first self-titled album in the UK.  The album was a success, featuring three hit songs:  "Runaway Boys", "Stray Cat Strut", and "Rock This Town".  Although their second release Gonna Ball (1981), did not do as well, the combined sales were enough to repackage their work and release it in the USA as the album Built for Speed (1982).  This release made the band an international success.  Their follow up release, Rant N' Rave (1983), featured the hit songs "(She's) Sexy + 17" and "I Won't Stand in Your Way".

During the height of their fame, the band began to splinter as members worked on other projects.  They did come back together, however, and their last release of the 80's, Blast Off (1989), featured the US Rock charting song "Bring It Back Again".  By 1992, the band had split up again, and it wasn't until 2004 that they reunited.  They were active well into the late 2000's.  The Stray Cats Discography is as follows:
