Steel Breeze was a solid California rock band that looked a bit more hair metal edgy than was the reality of their music. The band was essentially a power pop, guitar-oriented rock band that also threw in some new wave synthesizer. They named themselves after lyrics in the Pink Floyd song "Shine On You Crazy Diamond".
Steel Breeze was one trash can away from missing the big time, as a producer named Kim Fowley was listening to a stack of 1200 demo tapes that had nearly been tossed out. The search was ultimately for a band like Journey, and Steel Breeze fit the bill. After landing a record deal with RCA, Steel Breeze debuted in 1982 with a self-titled release. The band became an early favorite on MTV, and their song "You Don't Want Me Anymore" peaked at no. 16 on the Billboard charts. Another single from this album, "Dreamin' is Easy", also made the top 40, ultimately charting at no. 30.
In 1983, with a new vocalist, Steel Breeze released their second album, Heart on the Line, which was not a huge success. They would go onto to release three more albums before ultimately splitting up, all with different line-ups. They were never able to regain their popularity of the early 1980's. The Steel Breeze Discography is as follows:
