Running Wild was a German metal band formed in Hamburg in 1976. In the band’s early days, like many bands, they included satanic themes and imagery in their music and art work. Their first release, Gates to Purgatory, hit shelves in 1984. By 1987, the band had switched from the lame satanic themes to a pirate theme. Some of you may remember the song “Under Jolly Roger” from their 1987 release by the same name. It is worth mentioning that the band’s guitarist, Gerald Warnecke, studied theology and is said to be a vicar in Cologne.
As the years progressed, Running Wild continued producing new material, not only about pirates, but also about events such as the Battle of Waterloo, the Conquistadors, and even the War of the Roses. As of 2015, the band was still active, having played together at the Wacken Open Air festival in 2015. A new album was scheduled for release in 2016. The Running Wild Discography is as follows:
