Shark Island was a band from Los Angeles that was formed in the late 1970's as a band called "Sharks". In 1982, Sharks released their first independent album titled Alter Ego. By 1985, they had changed their name to Shark Island and became the house band at the Gazzari's club on Sunset Strip (a real honor for any band in the 1980's). They released another independent album in 1986 titled S'cool Bus. It is rumored that Axl Rose (Guns 'n' Roses) learned his stage style by watching Shark Island's vocalist, Richard Black, do his thing.
Before long the band caught the eye of A&M Records, and a tentative deal was set up and the band soon released the album Law of the Order in 1989. Some of you may remember the music video for the song "Paris Calling" from this album. Shark Island also contributed the songs "Father Time" and "Dangerous" to the Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure soundtrack, which is where many of us outside of L.A. first heard of the band. The band never really took off and broke up not too long after their 1989 release (Black went on to sing for Contraband). In 2005, Shark Island reunited for a new studio album. At the time of this writing, the Shark Island Discography was as follows:
