Dare was a band from Oldham, England that was the brainchild of ex-Thin Lizzy keyboardist Darren Wharton. After playing the club circuit around Oldham, Dare began making a name for themselves and eventually landed a record deal with A&M Records. They released their debut (Out of Silence) in 1988, which was an AOR rock oriented album. It was for their most successful release, 1991’s Blood from Stone, that we include them in the heavy metal section of this site. This was a much heavier release than their 1988 release.
Dare could have just as easily been put in the Rock section of this site, so if you are not a fan of heavy metal, we think you would still like their 1988 release. Dare continued to produce well into the 2000’s and beyond, but the AOR rock sound of the 80’s and early 90’s is a thing of the past. They now play with a more Celtic flavor.
