The Go-Go's formed in 1978 as an L.A. punk band, and could be found playing at the popular spots like The Masque and Whisky a Go Go. After some shuffling of band members, the Go-Go's began forming their pop sound that we are more familiar with. By 1980, the band had released a demo album and began touring with the band Madness in L.A. and in the U.K.
By 1981, the Go-Go's had landed a record deal, and their first album, Beauty and the Beat, was released in 1981. This debut album was a huge hit, and featured songs like "We Got the Beat" and "Our Lips are Sealed". Their follow-up release, Vacation (1982), did not fair nearly as well as its predecessor, but still featured the title track as a hit. Their last album before their break up was Talk Show in 1984. This album featured the songs "Head Over Heels" and "Turn to You".
By 1985, conflicts within the band finally took their toll, and the Go-Go's broke up. Members went onto solo careers, the most successful solo effort being that of Belinda Carlisle. Over the years, the Go-Go's have reunited from time to time, as well as released new material (example God Bless the Go-Go's in 2001). At the time of this writing in late 2013, the group was still together on stage. The Go-Go's Discography is as follows:
