The Hooters hailed from Philadelphia and formed in 1980. The roots of the band can be traced back to the early 1970's, when Eric Bazilian and Rob Hyman played in an Arista Records band called Baby Grand (later changed to The Hooters). In the early 80's, the band became a hit on the Philly club scene. The name of the band is not related to a woman's bosom, but instead to a keyboard harmonica made by Hohner. They have been described as a little rock, a little reggae, some folk, and a bit of ska.
The Hooters first release hit shelves in 1983 (Amore). It is worth mentioning that soon after this release, Bazilian and Hyman were asked to help out a little known Cyndi Lauper on her first release, She's So Unusual. Hyman is even credited as co-author of Lauper's hit song "Time After Time". It was The Hooter's 1985 release, Nervous Night, that began to bring them great success. Hit songs from this release include "And We Danced", "Where Do the Children Go", and "Day By Day". MTV helped fuel their success by putting their videos in heavy rotation. The band's success was not over. The release of One Way Home (1987) featured the hit song "Satellite", and Zig Zag (1989) featured the re-make hit song "500 Miles".
By the 1990's, the popularity of the Hooters in the USA began dropping off, while the opposite happened in Europe. After several years post 1995, the band went on hiatus. A 2001 reunion concert encouraged a 2003 full fledged reunion and more studio albums and concerts as the years have rolled on. The current The Hooters Discography is as follows:
