Given that their chart success and major recognition did not come until the end of the 80’s and early 1990’s, many people do not realize that the Grammy Award winning Red Hot Chili Peppers formed way back in Los Angeles in 1983. The band was formed by a group of high school friends, including long-time vocalist Anthony Kiedis and Michael Peter Balzary (known a Flea). The band landed a record deal in 1983 and their self-titled debut hit shelves the next year. Their first three albums went virtually unrecognized commercially.
In 1989, the Red Hot Chili Peppers released the album Mother’s Milk, which became their breakthrough. This album featured the hit songs “Higher Ground” and “Knock Me Down”, which did very well on the US Alt charts. The band’s success continued growing in 1991 with the release of the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik. This album featured the hit songs “Under the Bridge”, “Suck My Kiss”, and “Breaking the Girl”. The band kept producing and touring over the years, and the hits kept rolling in well into the 2010’s. At the time of this writing, the Red Hot Chili Peppers Discography was as follows:
