Wham! Band

George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley formed Wham! in the early 80's.  The two met in secondary school in Hertfordshire, England.  They initially performed together in a band called The Executive, and when that band broke up, the duo formed Wham! and landed a record deal.

Wham's first release was Fantastic! (1983).  Although the initial singles from this album did not chart in the USA, they did chart in a number of European countries, including the UK.  Songs you may remember from this release include "Young Guns (Go For It)", "Wham Rap! (Enjoy What You Do)", "Bad Boys", and "Club Tropicana".  By the end of 1983, Wham was in the same league as Duran Duran and Culture Club as Britain's top acts.

After changing their image and sound to a more popish direction, Wham released Make It Big (1984), which propelled them into international stardom.  Songs from this album that charted in the USA included "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go", "Careless Whisper", "Freedom", and "Everything She Wants".  And the hits kept on rolling with the release of Music from the Edge of Heaven in 1986.  This release featured the hit songs "Last Christmas", "I'm Your Man", "The Edge of Heaven", and "Where Did Your Heart Go".

It was after their 1986 release that the duo agreed to amicably split.  Michael was interested in creating more mature music, and it is well known that he went onto a successful solo career.  Ridgeley did not.  At the time of this writing, there was no Wham! reunion in the cards.  The Wham!
