When in Rome was an English new wave trio that consisted of Michael Floreal, Clive Farrington, and Andrew Mann. The group was created after Farrington's band, Beau Leisure, split up. After recording some demos and playing the pub circuit, When in Rome landed a record deal with a subsidiary of Virgin Records.
After the success of their first single, "The Promise", Virgin ordered a full album, and When In Rome released a self-titled release in 1988. This would be the band's only album release, but as far as initial releases go, it was very successful. Not only was "The Promise" a hit, landing at 11 on the Billboard charts, but the songs "Heaven Knows" and "Sight of Your Tears" also charted.
In 1990, When In Rome split due to musical differences. When In Rome has been resurrected in one form or another over the years, with Floreale performing as When in Rome in the UK, and Farrington and Mann performing as When in Rome UK, and later as Clive Farrington and Andrew Mann formerly of When in Rome (due to legal issues).
