Child's Play
At the time of this writing, there were a total of six Chucky movies, the latest being in 2013. The original movie, called Child's Play, was released in 1988. Child's Play 2 was released in 1990, and Child's Play 3 in 1991. Focusing on the original, reviews were mostly positive (Roger Ebert even liked it). Ultimately, it was a huge success at the box office, which was the impetus for the sequels.
In the original movie, murdered Charles Lee Ray is shot by the police, and just before he dies, he used his wacky voodoo skills to transfer his essence into a Good Guy Doll. After Karen Barclay buys the same doll for her son Andy, things start getting out of hand as the doll, Chucky, comes to life and begins killing people in Andy's life. Everyone believes that Andy is the killer, and they put him in a mental hospital. Eventually, Andy's mother and the police realize that Chucky is indeed alive, and Chucky is injured when the police shoot him.
Chucky learns that to continue living, he must possess the first person he shared his secret with, in this case Andy. In the end, Andy is saved, and the movie ends with the supposedly incapacitated Chucky coming back to life.
