Burger Time
Burger Time, originally titled Hamburger before its introduction into the USA, was a 1982 game created by Data East (distributed in the USA by Bally Midway). In this game, the player controls Chef Peter Pepper, who must assemble hamburgers, by walking over ingredients strategically placed on a laddered maze, while avoiding enemies. Completely walking over the ingredient causes it to fall to the level below, and by the time the Chef walks over the bun, the patty, lettuce, and a top bun, the burger is finished. Once all the burgers are assembled and on the plates, the player moves to the next level.
There were three types of enemies in the game, Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Pickle, and Mr. Egg. They could be defeated by crushing them with hamburger ingredients, stunned with a dash of pepper, or dropped to other levels whilst riding the hamburger assembly line. To get more pepper shots, the player could collect bonus foods, such as ice cream cones, French fries, and even coffee. There were six screen levels. As the player progressed, there would be more burgers to assemble, more enemies, and more difficult mazes. The game was popular enough to warrant a few sequels, such as BurgerTime Deluxe, Super BurgerTime, and Peter Pepper’s Ice Cream Factory.
