HSAS Hair Metal Band

HSAS, what the heck kind of name is that?  It stands for the seasoned veterans Sammy Hagar, Neal Schon (Journey), Keeny Aaronson (Santana), and Michael Shrieve (Santana).  For whatever reason, these guys got together in 1983-1984 and produced this partially live album, the only album produced under the band name HSAS.  Rumor has it the band only rehearsed for one month prior to playing in concert.

How did it all come together?  In late 1982, Sammy Hagar had just finished up the album Three Lock Box, and Journey released Frontiers shortly after in 1983.  Both Schon and Hagar were interested in doing a side project after Hagar returned from an extended African vacation and Journey's 1983 tour, so it wasn't long before Aaronson and Shrieve were tapped to round out the four piece.

The material for the albums was recorded over several live concerts in November of 1983.  A couple of these concerts were recorded and aired on MTV, although the recordings were never officially released on tape or DVD.  Except for the removal of some crowd noise on the album, Through the Firewas left un-molested.  Although there were several additional songs that were played in concert, only a handful made the album, including a cover of the song "A Whiter Shade of Pale", which charted at 94 on the Billboard Top 100.

Shortly after, Schon was back with Journey and Hagar was working on VOA (Voice of America).  Interestingly enough, Schon and Hagar reunited 20 years later for another short-lived project called "Planet Us".  The HSAS Discography is simply as follows:
