Reginald Kenneth Dwight, aka Sir Elton Hercules John, aka Elton John, grew up in the UK. John's parents were both musical people, and he began playing the piano at a very young age. By 11, he had he received a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music due to this amazing ability to hear a piece and replicate it by ear. He started playing professionally in a nearby pub, and by 1964, he created his first band, called Bluesology (which eventually morphed into the Elton John Band). By the late 1960's, he had changed his name to Elton John playing homage to Bluesology band members Elton Dean and John Baldry.
Elton's first studio album, Empty Sky, was released in 1969. His first top 10 hit, "Your Song", came on the follow up album, Elton John, in 1970. The rest of the 1970's brought Elton John many more hits, including songs like "Rocket Man", "Honky Cat", "Crocodile Rock", "Daniel", "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Candle in the Wind", "Bennie and the Jets", "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", "The Bitch is Back", "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", "Philadelphia Freedom", "Someone Saved My Life Tonight", "Island Girl", "Don't Go Breaking My Heart", "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word", "Part Time Love", "Mama Can't Buy You Love", and many more.
Elton John kept the hits rolling well into the 1980's. For a list of Elton John's 80's albums, refer to the discography on this page. For now, we are simply going to list of some of his 80's hits: "Little Jeannie", "Nobody Wins", "Blue Eyes", "Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)", "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues", "I'm Still Standing", "Kiss the Bride", "Sad Songs (Say So Much)", "Passengers", "Nikita", "Wrap Her Up", "Flames of Paradise", "I Don't Wanna Go On with You Like That", "Healing Hands", "Sacrifice", and many more.
Elton John released several more hit songs into the 1990's as well, but even though he has continued producing, with a new studio album at the time of this writing in 2013, his success in the US has primarily been on the Adult Contemporary charts. In 2013, The Elton John Discography was as follows (The Elton John Band):
