Joseph Fidler "Joe" Walsh, originally from our home town of Wichita, KS, was an accomplishment musician well before his days in the band Eagles. In addition to his solo effort and the Eagles, Joe Walsh also played in the James Gang, Barnstorm, and was a session guitarist for both BB King and Dan Fogelberg. Over the years he has also contributed to the work of Ringo Starr, REO Speedwagon, Bob Seger, Lionel Richie, and Richard Marx. His initial paying gig with the James Gang started way back in 1968.
Barnstorm was actually Walsh's creation, and although Barnstorm was the band behind the tunes, early Barnstorm albums were marketed as solo Walsh albums. The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get, a 1973 Barnstorm album released as a solo Walsh effort, featured the hit song "Rocky Mountain Way". By 1974, Barnstorm had officially disbanded, and Joe Walsh continued on exclusively as a solo artist. After releasing a couple of solo albums, Joe Walsh officially joined the Eagles, and went on to help them on a number of projects, including the critically acclaimed Hotel California. While the Eagles worked on a follow up to this album, Walsh continued his solo career, releasing But Seriously, Folks in 1978. You will probably remember the song "Life's Been Good" from this album.
After the initial breakup of the Eagles in 1980, Joe Walsh continued his solo career, although sales were poor. Many of you will remember that Joe Walsh actually ran for president in 1980 as a way to bring awareness to the campaign (no intentions of really winning). In addition to his solo career, in 1984, Walsh had accepted an invitation to perform for a band called The Party Boys in Australia. This lasted several years, and Walsh could be found in other bands and on other projects until he reunited with the Eagles in 1994. Some other songs you may remember from Joe Walsh include "The Confessor" (1985) and "Ordinary Average Guy" (1991). At the time of this writing, the Joe Walsh Discography was as follows:
