Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam was a freestyle music group from New York City. Lisa Velez (Lisa Lisa), formed the band in the mid 1980's with Mike Hughes and Alex Moseley, who were both members of the group Full Force. They landed a record deal with Columbia Records in 1985.
The band's first studio album was 1985's Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam with Full Force. It featured three hit songs that became very popular in clubs: "I Wonder If I Take You Home", "All Cried Out", and "Can You Feel the Beat". Their follow-up release, Spanish Fly (1987), was their most successful album, featuring the hit songs "Head to Toe" and "Lost in Emotion". The MTV video for "Lost In Emotion" was heavily rotated. Two other R&B hits from this album where the songs "Someone to Love Me for Me" and "Everything Will B-Fine".
Although things began to slow down for Lisa Lisa by the time 1989's Straight to the Sky was released, the album still featured the hit songs "Little Jackie Wants to Be a Star", "Just Git It Together", and "Kiss Your Tears Away". It is also worth mentioning that their 1991 studio release, Straight Outta Hell's Kitchen, featured the R&B hit "Let the Beat Hit 'Em".
Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam broke up in 1991 as Lisa Velez pursued a solo career (and acting career). Her latest studio releases were without Cult Jam. The Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam Discography (and solo work) is as follows:
