In 1988, Mark Slaughter and Dana Strum left the Vinnie Vincent Invasion to start their own band in Las Vegas, and we are guessing that Mark Slaughter won the coin toss. Rumor has it that Chrysalis Records took a four million dollar record deal out of the hands of Vincent, and gave it to Slaughter and Strum instead. Evidently execs were upset with Vinnie for spending too much money.

Interestingly enough, the Chrysalis gamble paid off. Slaughter's first release in 1990, Stick It to Ya, feature three Billboard Top 100 songs: "Fly to the Angels", "Up All Night", and "Spend My Life". The band's second release,The Wild Life, was not as successful as their first, but still hit "Gold" status and featured the hit song "Real Love". Slaughter continued producing throughout the 90's, but like many metal bands, the music climate had shifted. The popularity in the US quickly waned, but the band continued to be a huge hit in Japan. In 1998, one of the band's guitarist, Tim Kelly, was killed in an auto accident. All things considered, few metal bands made it past 1992 or had hits in the early 1990's, so Slaughter actually did very well.

As the years went on, Slaughter could be found playing for at mega-rock festivals like "Rock Never Stops" and Rocklahoma.
