Stryken Christian Metal Band

Stryken was a Christian heavy metal band from Austin, TX.  They started out in 1984 as a band called Stryker, and the fact that their name was similar to Stryper is not lost on us.  The band often dressed in armor (as in the full armor of God), or in other ways that seemed to push the heavy metal look to the extremes.  They released their first album, First Strike, in 1986, and could be found on a number of Christian metal compilation albums (such as Righteous Metal). 

Although we like Christian metal in general, Stryken was a bit over-the-top.  The band was even detained by police after proselytizing at a Motley Crue concert in 1987.  Stryken's music was not as refined as Stryper's, and it was definitely rawer than bands like Bloodgood and Barren Cross.  However, fans of Christian metal will likely want this piece of history in their collection (heck, we at least have their first album).  The Stryken Discography is as follows:
