Tony Macalpine Hair Metal Band

Is that a fro in yonder photo?  Indeed it is, my fine young cannibals, indeed it is.  Tony MacAlpine is the ONLY black guitar player to come out of the 80's that can be compared to the likes of Vinnie More, Steve Vai, etc (the guy even played keyboards for Vinnie Moore).  Tony MacAlpine started out playing piano as a youngster, and by the time he was a teenager, he had picked up the guitar.  MacAlpine is a classically trained musician and he has an affinity for scores by Frederic Chopin.

In the 1980's, under his own name, Tony Macalpine released two instrumental albums Edge of Insanity (1985) and Maximum Security (1987).  Many people do not know that in 1986, MacAlpine joined forces with Tommy Aldridge (Ozzy, Whitesnake), Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot, Ozzy, Whitesnake) and Rob Rock (Impelliteri) to create the band M.A.R.S. and the subsequent 1986 release, Project Driver.  Tony MacAlpine continued producing into the 1990's and he even sings on his 1999 release, Master of Paradise

In the early to mid 2000's, MacAlpine could be found playing along side Steve Vai in Vai's band "The Breed".  Other bands that have featured MacAlpine include Seven the Hard Way, CAB, and Planet X.  As a solo artist, at the time of this writing, the Tony MacAlpine Discography was as follows:
